Mycroft "is a free, standalone, multi-terminology browser which may be used to browse [US] national standard terminologies". It was released on 03 November 2004, under the name of Sherlock, by Apelon, Inc., a major US supplier of provider of medical terminology products.
"The Mycroft browser may be used to examine terminologies, navigate terminology hierarchies, see details of concepts, search for concepts, and view relationships among concepts. SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT®) and ICD-9-CM terminologies from the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) Unified Medical Language System® (UMLS®) Metathesaurus® are included with Mycroft at no cost for use within the United States."
